After graduating he went into law school to become a lawyer. He quit law school after months and went into politics. In 1881 he was elected to his 1st political office as a New York State assembly man.
3 Work with “Rough Riders”- When he resigned from assistant secretary of the navy to fight, he recruited college athletes and western cowboys to make the First Cavlary Regiment. Later they were known as the Rough Riders.
4 As 26th president-He became president in 1901 beacuse he was the vice president after the death of president McKinley. In 1904 the Repulicans nominated him for President and he won. He was a popular, well-respected leader which made the election go his way. He still continued his physical fitness as president. They made the teddy bear after him when he refused to shoot a bear cub on a hunting trip.
5 Work on the Panama Canal-He wanted to build the Panama Canal to allow U.S battle ships to move rapidly from the Atlantic to the Pacific. He paid panama 10 million dollars to build the Canal plus 250,000 a year. He traveled to Panama while the construction was going on. He was the 1st president to leave the U.S.A. while still in office.
Thought Question: He had a kind heart for the cub that he would not shoot, he was loyal, to still continue the fitness that he did as a kid. He had great ideas, like the Panama Canal.

ReplyDelete1. Teddy grew up in New York City. Teddy's family tree included 9 presidents, and Teddy's father also founded the YMCA. Theodore had poor eyesight as well as asthma, so he was homeschooled for most of his life.
2. A bit later, Teddy went to Harvard University at 18 and became a lawyer. He soon was elected New York State assembly man in the fall of 1881, and was reelected two more times. A few years later, he quit politics and became a cattle rancher after his wife died.
3. When the Spanish-American War broke out in 1898, Teddy quit his job as assistant secretary of the navy and recruited college athletes and cowboys to form the First Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, also known as the Rough Riders. A famous battle that the Rough Riders fought was the taking of Cuba’s San Juan Hill.
4. After President McKinley was assassinated, Teddy became our 26th President. He was the first American to receive the Nobel Prize. He also inspired the creation of the teddy bear.
5. Theodore made plans for building the Panama Canal. Building the canal took 10 years and 40,000 people. The United States had spent over $300 million dollars to build the Panama Canal.

1. Childhood- Theodore was born in New York City in 1858. As a child he was weak and suffered from asthma. As a way to help improve his health his father built him a gymnasium and then told him that if he sets his mind to it he can do anything. After that Theodore worked himself until there was nothing left to work, in doing this he learned determination.
2. 26th president- In 1901 Theodore became the 26th president of the United States. He was popular and well respected; he had won the election with the greatest popular margin at the time. When he refused to shoot a baby cub during a camping trip, toy makers began to create a special stuffed bear and they called it teddy bear. He was also the first American to win a noble prize.
3. Work on the Panama Canal- In 1903, Theodore signed a treaty with panama which gave the United States control of the 10 mile wide across the Isthmus of Panama. He did all this to allow battleship to move rapidly between Atlantic and Pacific Ocean.

He was near-sighted and homeschooled. His father also helped found the YMCA. (Young Men’s Christian Association) His father who was expecting a rugged child was completely disappointed with him.
2. Teddy Roosevelt was not only President but he was also an Author, Naturist, Historian, Explorer, and Politician. He was also a leader of the Republican Party. And founder of the Progressive Party. He went to Harvard College. And was a well-known American hero. He also was a magnificent hunter. (I had to add that, he was awesome he hunted Elephants!)

ReplyDelete1. What lead up to WW1 is that Germany wanted control over everyone in the world so they decided to invade and conquer Holland and other places. And the USA joined in when Woodrow Wilson said “make the world safe for a democracy.”
2. Major European nations looked to expand their wealth and their territory. They also looked for partners to turn to in the case of the war.
3. Kaiser Wilhelm II said, “I will have Paris for lunch and St. Petersburg for dinner.” And Germany stuck to the Schlieffen plan, and it was off to a quick start.
4. In spring 1914 the western front trenches were filled with millions of people. Actually at an average rate of one soldier per four inches.
5. In 1915 the British had over 1 million men in Belgium while France and Germany re-filled their front lines with men. But both sides lost 1 million men in 1 year.
6. Many Russian soldiers refused to obey orders and refused to fight. Many also abandoned the Military and formed a rebellion.
7. Eventually the support from the civilians collapsed. And after that rioting started and Germans were forced to kill some.
8. The war is finally over, but the world isn’t going to go back to normal. And the peace after the war wasn’t going to last long.
9. The great war had been a disaster, nine million soldiers were killed. Some people tried to forget it others built monuments of the people who died in it.

World War I was provoked for many reasons; a main reason was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. This war was not expected to be long one; the people thought that it would not last for more than a few months. This war was also the first war that they used chemical weapons.
2. Explosion
As countries changed and became wealthier, jealousy and tension between nations began to rise. On top of that allies began to form between countries incase war did break out.
3. Stalemate
Germany believed that the war would soon be over because of their strategy. Their strategy was to capture Paris, and if they were to go through with it they would have to have precise timing and no interruptions.
4. Total War
Trenches were being built and filled them with soldiers and men. The people behind the front lines were in charge of keeping the men fed and equipped and ready to continue fighting.
5. Slaughter
At the end of the war, both sides would lose just about one million men. The battle fields became better known as “the killing fields” and the only word that could accurately describe this war was slaughter.
6. Mutiny
As people begin to see the death rate in the war move up, they begin to ask themselves if this war is really necessary. On top of that the Russian soldiers begin to disobey commands and lose focus of the point in this war.
7. Collapse
With the help of America as allies Germany surrendered and a cease fire went into effect and on the 11th day of the 11th month on the 11th hour the war was over.
8. Hatred an Hunger
Even after the war ended peace did not come, tension between nations would remain. For millions the war would continue long after November 11th.
9. War without End
The Great War was the greatest disaster in history, there were so many deaths and four empires collapsed and those who did die where left with the question “What was it all for?”
10. One thing that would have never been possible during the civil war was the air raids. At that time neither airplanes nor chemical weapons were created or in use.
11. Another thing that would not be possible was the submarine warfare. This could not have been possible in that time due to the lack of technology and the fact that submarines had not been created yet.
12. The last thing that would not have been possible during the civil war that was during the Great War was the gas attack. This would not have been possible because of the fact that this poisonous gas was either not created or not being used as a weapon at the time.
