How did the economy of the North and South contribute to their need for or views on slavery?

(Remember to put your name at the top of your post)
Explain how the differences between the North and the South effected their view of slavery, why did the South feel strongly about the need for slaves whereas the North didn't? Use complete sentences to describe both North and South and then explain their views.

The North had no need for slaves because they had no need for plantations. They had factories instead. The North thought that the South was lazy and morally deranged for owning slaves.
The South was caught in a tangled web. Because of the cotton gin, people bought more land. Then they needed more slaves. And they bought more land. And then slaves. On and on and on. People who realized this spoke out against anti-slavery because without the extra manpower, the Southern economy would crumble.
Slavery had created a rift between the North and South that would be hard to mend properly.

The south were more advanced than the north, with farms towns and they planted a lot of cotton because of the cotton gin, so they had an increase for slaves.
The north did more manual labor they had railroads, factory’s, canals and they weren’t as wealthy as the south.

The reason that the North needed slaves is that the South saw slavery differently, and they both had different needs.
The North had a lot more factories, therefore the North didn’t need extra help besides the workers that they had hired and they did not own. The South had more farms and small towns so they needed more help therefore more slaves. Also Eli Whitney’s new invention for picking cotton called the Cotton gen, short for Cotton generator.

The south felt they needed slaves because the cotton gin was making a lot more cotton so they really did need some extra help around the farms. When Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin the number of slaves went up. The numbers went from one million slaves to four million slaves. The south had completely different needs. The north felt that they didn’t need slaves because they had factories which meant they had machines to help them do it for them so they didn’t have a need for slaves.

The differences are that the north, had factories, canals, and railroads and the south had farms, and small towns. The north didn't have the need for slavery but the south did because they had farms to work on and small towns to work in and they needed money to live. The south felt strong about having slavery because they needed a lot of help in their towns and farms, the north didn't because they had not as much need for slaves.

North: The North didn’t need slaves because their farms were small and their factories didn’t need slave work. The North also tried to stop slavery in the South and started taking sides with the Abolitionists (people who tried to outlaw slavery) .

South: The South planted some cotton, but it took too long to separate the seeds from the cotton fibers by hand that the cotton cost more to prepare then it did to sell it. But, fortunately, a schoolteacher invented the cotton gin, a machine that sped up the harvesting time. Now cotton became a valuable crop in the South. The South had a lot of land that they used to plant crops, but because plantation farming required a lot of workers, some planters had to buy slaves

The south were lazy and didn't want to do their own work, so the cotton gin, made by Eli Whitney was created to pick cotton for you as long as someone was pushing the machine. So they made having slaves to push the cotton gin legalized to be sold and they thought that the white race was the most important and that the black race were just a people to be sold and to be forced to do their work for them.

The north didn't need slaves because they were a people believing in not being lazy and forcing someone to do their work for them. They didn't think selling and trafficking the black race was ok, so they followed the amendments by treating all men equally, and not tearing their families apart to sell to do work and help pick cotton.

There were many reasons that the southern states wanted slaves and the northern states didn't want slaves. One main reason was that because of the weather it was much easier to grow cotton which made them want to buy slaves because they didn’t want to pick all the cotton. Plus after Eli Whiney invented the cotton gen there was a lot more cotton to be picked in the south so people got more slaves to pick the cotton. There also wasn’t much a need for slaves in the north because the north had mostly canals, factories, and railroads in bigger cities. In the south people wanted slaves because there were a lot of plantations in small towns, which is much better land to have slaves on. The northern states believed enslaving people was wrong and unethical but unfortunately in the south slaves were really just part of the culture. People think that today the slavery problem has been resolved but in reality there are still enslaved people around the world and even here in the United States.

The South felt like they needed slaves because they picked cotton off their plantations so the South could sell the cotton to get money. Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin to make cleaning cotton easier for the slaves. The south felt like they needed more slaves. The amount of slaves went from 1,000,000 to 4,000,000.
When the Underground Railroad was built in 1849, many slaves escaped to the North and that upset the Southern plantation owners.
When California became a state, in became an anti-slave state and it upset the balance between the slave and anti-slave states. The North and South made a compromise about California: they were going to keep California a free state, but pass a fugitive slave act (to make it fair for the South). The fugitive slave act caused many free slaves to be caught (that must have made the South extremely happy).
Harriet Beecher Stowe, a free black slave, wrote the book Uncle Tom’s Cabin, about how slavery was wrong. It upset the South and they wrote books about how terrible Northern factories were. Because of this, the North became very upset and wanted to end slavery even more then they had before.
In 1854, the Missouri Compromise was divided into Kansas and Nebraska (to make it even for the North and South). Then, the Kansas created two separate governments, one for the North, one for the South. Missouri sent some pro-slavery men into Kansas, and the anti-slavery men started to arm themselves.
The North on the other hand, was very against slavery because they didn’t feel like they needed them and that it wasn't right to own another person. The slaves were thankful for the North so if they escaped, they could escape to somewhere safe. Once the pro-slaves entered Kansas, the North started to arm themselves : a war was coming.

  11. The difference between the North and the South, was the North had factories, canals, railroads, but as if the South, the South had: farms, and small towns. They had very different needs. The south needed more slaves. And that was a big deal for the South’s economy. Free and slave states agreed upon the Missouri Compromise, and it divided up west into free/slave territory. The California Gold Rush upsetted the equal balance.

In the 1800's Eli Whitney invented a machine called a Cotton Gin. After Whitney invented it the southerners realized they needed more slaves. The slave population went from 1 million to 4 million in a few years.
The northern population had a series of different values. They worked in factories, they made a canal and they even built railroads. The southern population had a series of different values such as farming and cotton growing. Towns in the north were huge while towns in the south were very small.
The free and slave states agreed to the Missouri compromise. When they settled the land in the west the slave owners would get the land to the south and the north would be Free states.

The reason the North and the South saw slavery differently was because the both had different needs. The North had more factories and didn’t need extra help besides there workers who they hired and did not own. On the other hand the South had more farms and small towns so they needed more help in the fields to harvest and plant crops. And with Eli Whitney’s new invention the cotton gin, it was made to help making picking cotton easier they need more slaves to work. The South found it more convenient to own their workers and pay them less then to hire them and pay them minimum wage.

Eli Whitney invented the machine called the cotton-gin sometime in the eighteen hundreds. This machine helped to pick the small things out of harvested cotton so that many workers wouldn't have to do it by hand. But in order to work these machines, they needed more slaves. The South, (the people who needed the machine for their cotton factories) accumulated 1 million to 4 million slaves to work these machines in a few years.
The North section was poorer than the south section of the United States. The north section had no use for slaves because they had simple homes, no factories, and farms, not plantations. The north section had simple needs to satisfy everything they needed in life. The south section on the other hand, had a need for slaves to work on their plantations and in their cotton and other factories. The south thought that not having slaves would be like not having food because they couldn't do all the work in their factories themselves. They would probably have died if they had worked so hard because they weren't accustomed to it.

South wanted slaves because it was free labor and it would help the south produce cotton faster thanks to the cotton gin it doubled the production. Plus they didn’t have to pay them because they were a slave part of the U.S.A.
North thought there was no need for slaves because up in the north they had more modern technology like stronger buildings, beater roads, and faster means of travel. Also they didn’t have good farm land to use slaves.

The South wanted slaves because they are rich and they have a lot of farm land so they don’t want to work and there is a machine that they used which was a cotton gin which they needed more slaves so they could go and get the cotton for the town. The owner of the cotton gin was Eli Whitney. The amount of slaves they had was one million to four million slaves.
The North didn't need slaves because they have little farm land and little money so they did the work on their own. Also they thought that slavery was wrong and want it to be done on their own. So the North decided that they don’t need slaves and they did fine on their own. The North and South have very different needs.

North- The north does not want to keep slavery because they think that it is unfair to “own black people.”
South-Eli Whitney invented a machine that cleaned cotton much quicker. since it was getting cleaned faster they needed it to be picked faster. so they supported slavery.

The North felt like there was no need for slaves first of all because it was wrong and why should you be allowed to control someone else just because they African American it doesn't mean you can just own them the North thought this was wrong. Second because the North did not need slaves because there wasn’t as much work to be done as in the South.
The South wanted slaves because it was a part of their lifestyle, they used slaves as a part of everyday life it’s like using your car, you wouldn't want your car to be taken away then how would you get places you would have to walk or bike miles and that would take a long time. They used slaves because the cotton gin took much work and the cotton fields needed work to be planted and picked so paying people to do it would cost too much so why else have someone do it for free in this case slaves.

South wanted slaves to bring in all their crops to sell and live off of and to bring to the factories.
They started to make cotton gens to plant their crops faster but that made the south buy more slaves to harvest them all.
The people in the North thought it was unfair to the slaves working just because they were too lazy to do it themselves, the north tried to free the slaves like they weren't going to get mad and send them back so they had to work the rest of their life and die like that.

  21. The South strongly felt that they needed slaves because when Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin, they needed more help with planting the cotton and so, the more cotton they made, the more slaves they needed because they needed to help. The south thought it was fine to be able to own slaves. The North didn’t like the idea of slaves. Besides they didn’t even need slaves because they had factories to do the extra help that they needed. And so the North had life a bit easier because The North had factories, railroads and canals. The South had it harder because even though they had the good land they didn’t have any factories or anything like that, They had very small towns and farms.
